Hello! We’re Alex & Madie. 

We are a French-American couple from San Francisco, starting a year-long travel around the world in April 2016. This blog will relate our travel stories and photographs of the amazing food, people, and communities we’ll meet.

Alex was born and raised in France, and arrived in the U.S. in 2004. His first internship as a Software Engineer was at a small startup in Oakland, where he eventually became their VP of Engineering. He is now a Software Manager at Amazon, and has led teams in the Kindle division to build software for the Fire tablets & Fire TV devices.

Originally from Los Angeles, Madie (short for Madelene) is a professional photographer with a background in design, painting, and psychology. She has an MFA in Photography, and has worked with established photographers in San Francisco, as well as a growing list of food and tech clients of her own. Her award-winning photography has been recognized by APA and PDN. You can see her work on madelenefarin.com.

Madie has also been involved in community service and nonprofit organizations throughout her life. Since 2011, she has volunteered her time for La Cocina, an incubator kitchen for immigrant women starting food businesses in San Francisco.

We met in San Francisco through our love for food and music. In 2009, Alex created an underground supperclub with his friends. Its goal was to share their love of food with friends and strangers around the dinner table. Life got busy and they had to stop after one year. However, the supperclub’s biggest success was to bring in Madie to document the food and event with beautiful pictures. We started our journey together then.
